Manuel Gonzalez joined the APEX Group as business development executive in April 2022. Manuel has a wide range of professional experience, having served as a combat medic, small-business owner and customer service representative, as well as in leadership roles at GermWrap and Stryker. In his new position, he will focus on growing APEX’s business in the medical and education sectors.
“Manuel has been successful in every endeavor he has pursued, and I have no doubt his success will continue at APEX,” said Thomas Holland, CEO of the APEX Group. “His ability to adapt and take on new challenges will serve him well as we continue to evolve and grow as a company.”
We sat down with Manuel to welcome him to the team and learn more about him, both personally and professionally.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, and joined the military straight out of high school. During my time in the military, I traveled to several states, and life eventually took me to San Diego, California, where I met my amazing wife, Jeanette. We have two children together, a daughter and a son, and we have been married now for 18 years. Since 2007, our family has been residing in Houston.
2. Why did you decide to join the APEX team?
After working with Thomas and getting a better understanding of his vision for APEX, it was an opportunity that seemed too perfect to pass up. I really appreciate the way Thomas envisions business growth, along with his passion for people. Coming from an organization that focused on people, I thought it might be impossible to recreate, but it appears that I may have been wrong. I also appreciate the unique approach he is taking to running the company, and I am thrilled for the opportunity to help the APEX team achieve future success.
3. How has your past experience prepared you for your new role?
I have had the opportunity to work in many different roles in the past, which gives me a unique understanding of what customers are looking for. As both a former technician and a leader, I can see their challenges from multiple perspectives. My experience makes this role in business development a perfect fit for APEX and for me.
4. What are your hobbies?
I enjoy working out (well, attempting to), woodworking (more like woodbreaking), and spending time with my wife and children.
5. What's the most interesting article or book you've read lately?
I am currently reading the book Better Business: How the B Corp Movement Is Remaking Capitalism by Christopher Marquis (thank you, Thomas). I’m really enjoying learning about this unique and responsible approach to business.
6. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would probably have to be pizza. As far as what type, I would go with supreme so I could pick things off and allow a bit of variety when needed.
7. What’s on your bucket list?
I would like to travel to Australia and see the sights! I just dread the long flights. My wife is excited to adopt a kangaroo (oh, boy).
