Meet the Team: Ginger Theriault
Ginger Theriault joined APEX Group as employee experience recruiter and onboarding specialist in May 2022. Theriault, who received her human resources management certification from the University of Texas at Arlington, has more than six years’ experience in the field. She will assist with recruiting new members to the team and helping them transition into their new role.
“As we continue to grow, we need an experienced HR professional to help us ensure our new team members feel welcome and valued,” said APEX Group CEO Thomas Holland. “Ginger’s excellent communication and organizational skills make her the perfect fit for this role.”
We sat down with Ginger to welcome her to the team and learn more about her, both personally and professionally.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I grew up in San Angelo, Texas, where it is hot and dry and you can see actual tumbleweeds rolling down the road. During the summer months, you’ll also find huge tarantulas and jumbo grasshoppers on the road. Rule of thumb when visiting San Angelo: Always look up when crossing an entryway because tarantulas love to hide up in the corners (by the way, spiders make me cry). I went to Miles High School, home of the Bulldogs. I come from a huge family, and most of them live in San Angelo. Every Sunday, the entire family (aunts, uncles, cousins) go to my grandmother’s and spend the day with her. I am married to one of the nicest police officers I have ever known and have two amazing boys. My oldest lives in Colorado, where he is a BMW-certified mechanic and loves racing cars. My youngest is in the Navy and is currently stationed at Yokosuka, Japan, where he is assigned to the USS Blue Ridge command ship, the flagship of the Seventh Fleet.
2. Why did you decide to join the APEX Group team?
I decided to join APEX Group to get back into HR, which is my passion. I love the team atmosphere here. It is rare to work at a company that not only claims to have that kind of feel/culture, but actually does. Everyone here makes working at APEX Group a very relaxed and enjoyable experience.
3. How has your past experience prepared you for your new role?
I previously worked as a recruiter with [APEX Group Director of Employee Experience] Lizzie Altimore at a law firm in Dallas that had a very different feel. The environment was stressful, and the culture wasn’t good, but I did learn to have thick skin, which helps me deal with stress and high pressure.
4. What are your hobbies?
I have five bearded dragons (three females, two males), and I love dressing them up, having photo shoots with them, and posting to their Instagram page (they love followers). I also enjoy watching movies with them and taking them shopping in their stroller and cuddle cup. I never thought I would be the crazy lizard lady, but here I am, killin’ it!
5. What’s the most interesting article or book you've read lately?
I highly recommend Chef Lenny Cooking for Humans. Chef Lenny is a bearded dragon who has his own Instagram page, and his owners have the best photo shoots with him. The recipes are good, but the pictures in the book are fantastic. Lenny looks like he is in his natural environment and very comfortable.
6. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
My dad’s chicken tinga. He puts love into his cooking, especially when he is making his kids’ favorite dishes. He does all the cooking for our family events, and he will be cooking this dish (very excited) for my sister’s baby shower. My sister is due in July on my birthday, and she is having twins. She was hoping for a girl and ended up with twin boys for a total of five boys. She said she was not doing that again—ha!
7. What’s on your bucket list?
I want to try spelunking. I have never liked small, dark, cramped and scary spaces, but I would love to be brave enough to descend into the depths. It can be claustrophobic, perilous and dangerous—but also thrilling. To be able to overcome my fear and see life found nowhere else on the planet would be amazing.
